Jocko Slim Channels Real Life Into Relatable Bars, Aiming for Longevity Over Hype

“I like to take everyday life experiences and relate to people in a creative way,” says Jocko Slim. “Whether it’s about heart break, working a job you hate, family issues, etc.”
While still early in his career, Jocko Slim has performed in multiple cities across Virginia, including Richmond, Falls Church, Harrisonburg, and Virginia Beach. He openly acknowledges the challenges he’s faced, including a recent bout of writer’s block.
“The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far in my career was hitting writers block on my last project,” he explains. “For months I couldn’t come up with anything that I thought was worth putting out to the world. Then one day I came across a J. Cole interview. And his advice to writers block was to write a verse everyday. I put that into action and ever since then the lyrics seem to come to me automatically.”
Looking ahead, Jocko Slim envisions a future where he can dedicate himself to his music full-time.
“In the next few years I see myself being able to make a living off of my music,” he states. “I don’t have to be a megastar. If it happens then it happens. But in all reality I just wanna be able to turn my passion into a full time job.”
Jocko Slim aims to showcase his authentic growth through his music.
“I would like for this article to show people the authenticity of my growth. As of right now, I’m not someone with a crazy big following, but I have the talent and put my all into every single song I drop.”
